DAC burn in

I don't claim that every component requires "burn in", but there are valid reasons for why the sound of a DAC may improve (or at least "settle") after time.

In a typical DAC (based either wholly or partially on sigma delta modulation), the job of the analog reconstruction filter in smoothening out the current pulses leaving the modulator is critical to achieving the best sound.

Electrical components do change their characteristics over time (and in response to a flowing current), and it may take some time for the characteristics to settle.

On many of the components I have reviewed in the past, leaving the unit in continuous "playback" for at least 24-48 hours do seem to slightly alter the sound (usually an improvement).
