I'm no hacker, but I'm pretty sure it does bypass the undesirable code. I only use Foobar0.8.3 though, so there may be a difference there. I've never seen the effects that you mention. It may be that mixing still works, but the damaging part of kmixer is being bypassed. I know that none of the volume sliders have any effect, so the DSP function is bypassed.
In fact, only yesterday I compared an XP laptop with unmapped Foobar 0.8.3 to Mac iTunes and Mac iTunes with Amarra running native 24/96 tracks, and the PC matched or beat all of them, albeit by a small margin against Amarra.
