RE: PC replacement for dcs stack

I am in agreement. PC stuff is hit and miss and even more difficult to set up well than the dCS stack.

I would have two parallel systems. Side by side, the PC system can come close, but the dCS system, also with UA2192 and Big Ben (modified with much lower noise 3.3V regulator) sounds better and operates more smoothly as a hifi system. The PC system tends to be set and forget for very long periods of playback. This system has many more mods and tweaks than the fixed boxes.

Word clocks, I have had many supposedly 'superior' clocks and have had mixed success. Sometimes it is better without them and I tend to use relockers.

I prefer 176.4/192k. Here PC systems can be a hassle when it comes to playing mixed resolution files, especially if one uses word clocks and have to chenge sample rates.
