I totally agree. While the Mac laptops are twice as expensive as most PC laptops, the screens are nice. What I noticed was the 27" iMacs was the small extra cost over a Mac 27" monitor. It's actually cheaper with better graphics than a lower cost Mac Mini and a separate monitor.
The question is how much power do you need for browsing. I was looking for a new laptop and would only be using it for internet apps and ended up with a Chromebook for $180. It's got a quite nice 15" screen that is a lot better than most lower cost laptops and it works great for my needs and has a form factor more like a Mac Air with 12 hour battery life.
