Avoiding future blame is a better part of valor.
It's the old 80/20 rule, except it's more like 95/5 or less for a real architect. My partner did the original Trader in a few days in Java. When we needed to update it, his brother rewrote it, two genius coders, too rare. It's easy to add mods when it's a clean object code base or just start over.
Working with 50 programmers would be a nightmare. It strikes me that 5 eagles is better than a few great ones and 50 more hacks. But then, I was always a maverick and not a good corporate citizen.
