I would :)

I use a two drive 718+ that provides more than enough storage for me. While mine is a mirrored array of 2 TB drives, I could instantly replace those with a pair of 16s if ever the need arose.

While I will eventually replace the cheap spinning rust ($50 each) with SSDs, I'm waiting for the price to fall further. 2 TB SSDs were once $300 and now they're around $160. While mine is located in the office far from the music systems, I find the two 3.5" drives are barely audible. I certainly would not want a large number of 3.5" drives spinning in the listening room!

As for backups, I would recommend having more than one. As I have collected external USB drives over the years, I now have three compact 2 TB drives, two sets of 1 TB + 500 MB drives, and two backup drives for the NAS, one of which is in an external case that does nightly incremental backups.
