RE: What drive did you get?

No, I didn't notice any weird noises on booting.

However, I noticed that the one that I'd replaced appears to be the same ASUS model. The old one was a 2019 model, so it was only about 3 years old. I suspect that the old one is just a little out of alignment, perhaps it happened over time or it just shows up on certain CDs that might be just a little off.

According to the reviews, a small number of people got defective drives or had shipping damage. Mine came in just a plastic sleeve and Amazon just stuck it in a plastic mailer with no padding.

What's surprising is how Amazon could sell a DVD writer for under $25. To make a profit, ASUS would need to make the product for less than $10, unbelievable that it works at all.
