RE: Great!

I bought the ASUS BW-16D1X-U. I had just received it and had it all boxed up to go back after trying 2 other player apps, but then got bored and tried the MacGo software after finding the free trial on their website. It's offered in the App store too, but at almost twice the price, and without a free trial.

As far as the drive, I chose that one specifically because it doesn't need an additional USB port for power, unlike the "portable" ones. It comes with a traditional AC plug in power supply. I only have 2 USB ports and one is devoted to the USB DAC. The only other drive that offered that option was a Pioneer, but it didn't come with the power supply, that was an option that I would have had to order from Pioneer. Cost cutting again! It's a little plasticky, but what isn't anymore? Of course the Amazon reviews were the usual mixes of, "greatest ever 5 star" and "worst POS DON"T BUY!!!) But at this point seems like it will do the job I need for now.

The drive worked perfectly with the BR disc using the MacGo, a standard DVD, using the Mac DVD player, and a CD through itunes, so it'll just replace my old external "Super Multi Drive".

I was close to abandoning it and choosing the HT receiver/Blu Ray option, but there is NOTHING in stock at the "affordable" end of the spectrum, so this $180 option will do fine in the meantime.
