Your last remark rings true.
RME makes a lot of claims for technical 'excellence'. My experience on earlier hardware was that it did not live up to enhanced SQ.
So, I will not spend good money on the gear, unless I can hear it first to validate what has been posted.
Being in Europe, I will not buy US gear that has no native product support, requiring return to the US for service.
