RE: Ethernet to ultraRendu or USB direct from Mini to Ayre DAC

I only have a 2015 MB Pro, and I didn't see the replacement program for the screen until it was too late! My young girls (at the time) got me a cute (well, to them) moose screen cleaner kit. I of course HAD to use it, and it damaged the screen.

I bought mine new airs with the M1 last year. My youngest has an old Air from her school and she can't stand using it it's so slow. Spoiled now.

My choices are, new M1 mini for the server, OR using the MB Pro with the damaged screen as the server, and getting a new Air for my other uses (no room for the mini and a screen at my little side table). I've seen some say the laptops are the "quieter" choices, so I'm not sure which to choose. The Mini is $700 v. the Air at $1,000 so that's a consideration. I could use more storage on the Mini as well, Pro only has 256Gb. I do have a Windows laptop, and I did set it up with ROON just to try it, but it was such a pain I almost took a sledgehammer to it.

The problem I have with the laptops is that I can't figure out how to use it with the lid closed, ROON and my SB Touch disconnect when it's closed even if I choose the "never" options for power management. There should be a way, but I haven't found it.
