Either your DAC is immune on upstream flaws or not.
That has nothing to do with "YOUR" system in the first place.
If several neutral people report upstreamitis, you bet there's something about it.
It requires empirical evidence to get the picture, because pretty much all known reviewers won't go beyond Audio-Precision measurements and seriously believe (or sell) that these are the end of the story.
I once read an article of the AMIR guy. He reviewed an iFi filter.
How did this guy run his "scientific" measurements?
He hooked up a Topping D90 and measured the output of the DAC with the iFi in and out of the loop.
His result: No difference! Snake-Oil! (Your words too!)
I am saying: Total ignorant BS. Scientific? Oh dear.
He is not measuring the performance of the filter. He measures its impact on the DAC with his known insufficient Audio-Presion methods.
His conclusion should have been: The Topping D90 is immune on upstream flaws. (Which would have also been highly questionable due to the fact that he runs insufficient measurements)
To measure the filter performance you have to have a look before and after the filter on the digital side. If the noise would e.g. be 30dB down after the filter and this would be according to spec and that'd be class leading it gets a 100% rating. It's that simple.
And such a product would very well work on less immune DACs. As I mentioned earlier, the vast majority of DACs out there would benefit by using such a filter.
