My estimate: 99% or more (from 10000?) are still not doing it right.
These filters/reclockers/regenerators are no snake-oil.
They do what they are supposed to do. This can easily be measured - on the USB BUS!
And on 99% or more (relates to my estimate) of the DACs out there they work. Even modern ones. And that's the problem.
And it is much cheaper to elevate a $500 DAC with a $150 filter 2 classes
up, then buying a device having all the stuff already incorporated at 4 times (or more) that price.
However. The industry is still progressing. We just learned that Schiit is charging just $200 for an USB interface upgrade. And for that they don't rely on XMOS, which most of today's DACs do. To me it is not clear though how much immunity they achieved.
Kal's examples refer to a price segment far beyond my imagination - btw.
The main issue is, that people/manufacturers have difficulties to get the flaws measured or properly identified. All these Topping, Gustards, SMSL, Khadas, you name it, measure extremely well in Audio-Precision terms
and that under very basic USB conditions. Still they suffer the upstreamitis. (I tried it on Gustard and Khadas)
