I've thinking the same thing. Why do you need a huge cache for streaming?
While listening, I checked the current cut playing a lossless wav file from a CD, 36.8MB and 3 minutes and 38 seconds. That equates to 172KB/s. A 2.0 USB drive can do way more than that. The streaming device would buffer the whole file in under a second at gigibit rates.
8GB of RAM cache would be more than enough unless you have a ton of users like a medium business hitting the NAS.
