Your post implies that the Amazon Music HD player app now allows you to open an ASIO or WASAPI Exclusive session. That is, there is now a " Speakers" or "Audio Output" option? If so that must be a modification of the app since I used it during the early days of the service. If selected there is no need to change the computer mixing data rate as the ASIO/WASAPI session means that a bit perfect stream is sent to your computer output i.e the mixer is avoided.
" checked to see what Amazon Music thought my device capability was". Unsure how the Amazon Music app knows the data processing capability of your device (meaning DAC?). Perhaps you would kindly expand a little on this point?
As for the 24 bit output with 44.1 sampling rate this is a common hi-res data rate combination especially with pop/rock repertoire. Also some DACs "upsample" (pad) all incoming bit depth to 24. Are you seeing this readout from your DAC's display?
Is this correct or have I not understood your post correctly?
