Home Computer Audio Asylum

Music servers and other computer based digital audio technologies.

Unless

you are going to be using it for something other than LMS/pCP, then the additional memory would likely never be used. Which is why I like using a NAS in that it is optimized for large scale caching of data. Mine contains 8GB memory of which 6 GB is used for cache. Once an album or playlist is selected, it doesn't take long before the entirety is now read from cache memory.

I've found that inexpensive SMPS units compromise transparency. Even using a $30 phone charger improves sound quality in the garage system. And yes, even the DC power cord can make a difference in perceived dynamic range. And that doesn't have to be expensive either. I first cobbled one together using Canare star quad cable and cheap connectors for under ten bucks to validate a claim made by the John Swenson (ultraRendu designer). Now I use a Ghent Audio version that ran about $35.

I think investing in those would be money better spent if your goal is the best sound quality.
