I have the Node 2i connected to the Qutest DAC via digital coax. The M1 Mini is connected to the DAC via a USB cable. The Node 2i does not require another player, it drives the DAC directly and until connection of the M1 Mini it did it at the native bit rate of the song I selected on it (Node 2i).
The problem arose when I simultaneously power up the Mac Mini and the Node 2i so I can do comparisons between them. I didn't expect the Mac Mini to dominate the Node 2i which is on a different input to the DAC. The Qutest DAC doesn't auto-select an active input. You must button press to select the input.
The only way to "reset" the Node 2i to bitrate control (native sampling) its songs is to have the Mac Mini powered off and unplug the power and ethernet cables on the Node 2i for about 30 seconds.
All this occurs without using Roon, i.e., I haven't started the Roon software at the time of comparison. The Mac Mini browser audio or the Qobuz player software are in use on the Mac Mini in order to do sound-quality comparisons between the MacMini and the Node 2i.
I haven't had time to do extensive listening with Roon. By the way, I can't find any ability to set "exclusivity mode" with Roon even though I read about it in their support documents.
