Interesting conflict Chord Qutestand M1 Mac Mini

I bought a M1 Mac Mini to try Roon and I was hoping for the best. I was a satisfied user of BlueSound Node 2i for streaming but I wanted to try Roon. I use the Node 2i via coax, an AQ Carbon coax to a Chord Qutest DAC. All good with the Node 2i.

However, after I connected the new M1 Mini I found that the M1 Audio Midi application dominated. This is obviously normal when using the M1 browser audio or an M1 music app.

However, when using the Node 2i with its different input to the Qutest, the M1 Audio Midi App still clearly changed the audio. Whatever bitrate setting the M1 Audio Midi App was on remained in effect even if the M1 was not in use, i.e., the Node 2i was in use via a different input.

When the M1 was on and I was listening to the Node 2i on obviously a different input to the Chord Qutest (coax) I could, in real time, clearly hear the bitrate changes I made using the M1 Audio Midi App on a different non-selected input (USB) to the Qutest.

Some bitrate changes had no clear effect while others were obvious.

I tested this by changing M1 Audio Midi bitrates WHILE listening to the Node 2i on its different input to the Qutest. It clearly changed the sound of the Node 2i which was on a different input from the M1 which I made the changes on.

The only way I could prevent this was to shutdown the M1.
