RE: should i bother with a DAC inbetween MacBook and AudioEngine A5?

I am only talking about a passive USB C to USB A adaptor (Macbook to Dragonfly). Lots of versions available on Amazon. About 5 gbp to 7 gbp. I mention the mini jack cable as that is the analogue output port from the Dragonfly and the input port on the powered speaker.

I haven't come across the SMSL device before but irrespective of any other considerations it seems to offer more flexibility in acceptable formats than the Dragonfly. From the little that I can find online about it it also seems to require an adaptor to mate with a Macbook.
