As you probably know, various components on the mobo needs different level of DC.
Hence the mobo is populated with DC> DC converters and of course they are of the switching type.

Years a go I did a very simple test:
Using the PSU do a RMA loopback test
Remove the PSU forcing the laptop to use its battery and run the same test.
Jitter increased substantial!
