Of course, that creates what's known as spaghetti code. Object oriented code is the thing now with reusable routines.
COBOL reminds me of an old friend and consulting partner years ago. He did an ITT tech course or something and his first job was with IBM systems doing COBOL with punch cards. After getting all his cards punched, he carried them carefully to the computer room and tripped, spilling all the cards all over the floor.
