My first inclination is to just replace Cable B. BTW: Is the new cable the problem one?
It doesn't make much sense unless Cable B is marginal with either a weak connection to one of the pins that one computer notices that the other doesn't. Or perhaps, the RJ45 plug has a defect or one computer has it's female connection that doesn't make a perfect connection and you can carefully align or bend up the pins inside.
