You might be on to something. All you can do is test it. The problem is having to install it and letting it run for a day or two if it's intermittent. Typically, when I've had PS failures, the PC won't boot, but I've seen stranger things.
My old computer which was also used as a server is a hot-rodded I7 6 core with 32GBs and suddenly started hanging after a couple 2 or 3 days. Since it was a media server too, and I had a spare I7, motherboard and PS, I just bought a new case and SSD and replaced it. But, I'd still like to get the old one resolved. I was thinking it might be a memory stick that went bad, I've had that happen, but maybe PS sag could be an issue. Graphics card can also cause random blue screens.
Motherboards are way beyond me for trouble shooting and a last resort, but if you can get a compatible one for the processor, it's the cheapest solution.
Anyway, I need to do more trouble shooting on that system as my son could use it for SolidWorks.
NTW: On my replacement, I also added 3 more fans to the case. It runs much cooler.
