RE: What Do You Guys Think Of This Music Server?

Must say the product leaves me a bit puzzled, it is called "Berry" and the back side says "open source networked music server" so I expected a Raspberry PI inside running Linux instead of a Intel running Win10.
Anyway, nothing wrong with something fanless as it must be in the listening area.

An obvious first is do you like a headless box?
You probably have a couple of PC's at home.
Hook one up to the stereo (analog) and see how you fare.
You might decide to have a monitor attached to it and keyboard / mouse.
You can try to remotely control it, using an android phone.
You might even hookup a android phone, some even have a very good DAC inside

Storage.
A NAS is convenient if you want to have a box in the network running 7x24
I have one, using it to backup all PC's in the house.
If you want multi room audio, it is convenient as well.
But today's routers often have options like attaching a USB HD, running a DLNA server, etc.
Any PC can be used as well. What MS called Media Sharing is UPnP.
Personally I don't like streaming (UPnP) because it is a bit hard to control and it doesn't support custom tags.
Beside streaming using a media protocol you can use file sharing instead.

Ripping
I can only second what PAR has said, a normal PC and some good ripping software.
The meta data is crucial to find your way in your digital audio collection.

USB DAC
Probably the place to start as you need it anyway.
Most are UAC2 (USB Audio Class 2) and run driverless on Win10, OSX, Linux and recent Android (6+).

My setup
I have a iMac, yes it has a fan but it is whisper quit.
I run Win10 on it as all my PC's (at home, at work) are Win.
Attached to it is a Benchmark DAC1
It sit next to the PC allowing me to control its volume while headphone listening.
From the Benchmark to the audio over the XLR.

I have had a DAP (Dedicated Audio PC) but it has no benefits.
Did a lot of tweaks, there was a time I almost knew the BlackViper by hart but this tweaks don't do anything. One day I decided to sell it, just a box less.

Obvious, the only investment I made was the DAC.
Set me back $1000 in 2008.
A well-engineered DAC is IMHO all you need to get excellent sound quality.
