Bluesound Node 2i connectivity

I am so new to this that you might laugh. I don't mind.

I just bought one of these devices after reading reviews from so many happy users. It sits in the box unused because I have no idea what to do with it. I have a very resolving system, depending so far mostly on SACD and CD for a source, played through a superbly self-modified Marantz SA11S1. The rest of the stereo is of comparable quality. I don't expect to derive that level of quality from the Node, but anything better than a good tuner would suffice. If better than that, I'll be thrilled.

My question is about connectivity. Believe it or not, I do not have a smart phone. I do have internet cable. What else do I need? I want to use ethernet, so I guess I need a modem or router. How fast must it be to achieve high resolution? Must I also have a smart phone, and does it need to be in the system whenever I stream?

Guess I could contact Bluesound, but maybe you guys can help me and offer audiophile advice. Technology has left me behind, and I'm dazzled by its prospects but daunted by the lingo. Enjoy a laugh at my expense, but please be gentle and avoid acronyms I won't recognize. I know USB from RCA, but that's about it.
