Didn't you say that

modifying the Sonos connect costs another $500 on top of the $350 purchase price?

I suspect a really tricked out RPi with Allo digital board and even adding a $400 Uptone LPS-1 battery supply would sound better that for less and not limit you to Redbook quality.
