and refuse to listing to music in the car or from a cell phone or other portable player.
As do I - I'm too much of a music junkie and need constant fixes. My truck has XM capability and plays MP3 content from a USB flash drive containing a couple hundred albums.
While I don't listen while running (need to pay attention to traffic), I always use some Shure sound isolating earbuds while mowing the largish lawn on the tractor.
How long would it take to rip and organize (find cover art, etc) over 1000 CDs?
I ripped about 700 over the course of a couple weeks years ago using EAC. It would take less time today using dbPoweramp because it runs faster and metadata lookup (including art) is automatic. As I purchase new CDs (or at least new to me), I rip 'em immediately and they get filed away. For me, its like document management. Similarly, I scan important documents and link them to my financial software or save them in a series of folders. A minute spent up front saves countless on the back end. Quick, indexed access to either is a beautiful thing.
That time spent was a labor of love returning benefits to me on a daily basis. I cannot imagine going back to having to spin everything I play. How limiting that would be now for selection!
As for vinyl, I clean mine using a VPI HW-16 before each play. Ok, so I'm a bit OCD. :)
