I have played a lot with flac on mobile devices. For Android, I did settle on Poweramp. In my trials 4 years ago, it was the only player that handled gapless flac audio without audible gaps. So I bought the paid version, it's about $7. Maybe there is something else out there now, but I'm still completely happy with Poweramp.I have a Samsung s6. The biggest audio improvement I get is to switch out the Samsung earbuds for my Audio Technica headphones (AT50 I think). The reason I use Audio Technica for mobile is that they are efficient enough to be driven directly from a phone. My Sennheisers are not. I don't know the needs of the headphones you are using, it is possible they really need more juice than the Samsung can give.
If you use a phone case, you will probably need a $5 adaptor to get the Audio Technica plug into the hole. Anyway, better headphones help a lot.
Having said that, it's still a phone, and it still has its limitations. I use an Astell and Kern AK100 and it blows away my phones and tablets, including the iPad pro.
Of course, you can use the phone as a source into an outboard DAC and amp, but I personally have not gone into that yet.
