RE: Is Thunderbolt really a better interface than let's say USB ?

Thunderbolt is a vast improvement on firewire, and largely solves FW's capacity problems. (Thunderbolt is, btw, USB3.)

One interesting development was shown at an audio show a couple years ago. Metric Halo, the developers of the first FW audio interface (converter + mic pre's) decided to change the architecture of their product line to USB2 with a field-installable kit for all current and past products. They chose USB2 because of its huge capacity and because, unlike USB3, USB2 includes an audio standard. Sadly, they are still working on it, and haven't released anything yet.

So it looks like one version or another of USB is it.
