1. Power wiring and the way it is all laid out does matter. You have to be very careful about noise when attempting to bridge multiple branches with parts of the same system. Plugging everything into the same outlet can help ensure probability of encountering these types of difficulties has been minimized. The problem in this case may be more complicated than the more simple term "ground loops" can cover well but is related for sure.


2. When the optical interface is sufficient for your needs, it sure does work well for avoiding the emi problems of the ground loops they can eliminate.
