RE: Playing music files directly from a NAS.

Most of the time a NAS is Ethernet, you won't find many featuring WiFi

"Using a NAS" is a bit ambiguous.
You can use it for file sharing
You can use it using DLNA

I use file sharing and I have never been able to hear a difference between local playback or playing from a share.

The only difference I can conjecture up is the today's popular "noise" hypothesis.
Different playback methods generate different noise patterns.
If this affects sound quality you probably need a DAC with a better galvanic isolation.
