RE: eSATA, and cable recommendations

A very obvious recommendation is to take all those tweaks with a grain of salt.
If the advice comes from a cable manufacturer I prefer to use a bit more than a grain.

Inside your PC you often find various USB hubs.
If 2 USB devices are connected to the same hub it is thinkable that they exhaust the capacity of the hub or something upstream.
In case of audio this will be audible as drop outs.

If needed you can use the device manager to check if your DAC shares a hub with another device.

I don't notice a difference in sound between it and the computer's internal HD.

That's the best strategy, try it yourself and if you don't hear a difference, stop bothering
