RE: Usb to spdif with existing dac beginner question

There are a couple of things to consider

The format of the audio. This is often 16/44 (CD) but you can get downloads in all kind of formats. Most of the time 24 bits and sample rates 88/96/176/192
This is what we call highres

Next question, can you feed this formats into a DAC without sample rate conversion.

In your case you need a USB to SPDIF converter.
In the past they were often limited to 24/96 but today sample rates even > 192 are supported.

Last question of course is, what sample rates are supported by SPDIF receiver at the DAC.
If it is limited to e.g. 44 then you are forced to down sample everything to 44 kHz
