Home Computer Audio Asylum

Music servers and other computer based digital audio technologies.

It's a trend

Applications that used to run on our computers and devices increasingly run only on the developers' web sites. This "putting everything in the cloud" gives the developer complete control of the applications you use, and the content you create. It locks you in to paid software upgrades on their schedule. Adobe's suite of apps, for example, now only runs on their site.

In Apple's case, I'm sure one impetus for this is to reduce sharing. That would be a good thing if they actually paid the artists for their work, but at an average of $0.004 per song, they really don't.
