YOu really dont need a sound card if you just want to be able to playback your music, you can either get a dac or receiver that has a USB input, or just get a USB-> Spdif converter like the M-audio Transit or HagUsb. If you want other features such as recording and more I/O options a soundcard maybe a good idea. The better soundcards usually will have less jitter because of the better clock and circuitry so this should give you better sound when using the digital output.You should really do a search on this forum there is a ton of info on this subject.
