There are a couple of protocols like these.
The ones that come to my mind
AVB
Dante
Ravenna
CobraNet
EtherSound
It is about doing real-time audio over Ethernet.
As routers, switches and CAT5 cables are dirt cheap you can save a lot of money using these protocols in large studios
