Totally confused about pc audio

Ok I have been reading all the posts and info I can on the net and im still a bit confused about getting high end sound from my pc. I recently built myself a new computer and Id like to use it to replace my cd player, but only if I can at least get it sounding as good or better than my modded Marantz cd67. Heres the specs of the computer, Coolermaster Centurion case, Silverstone Zues 650w psu, DFI Lanpart mobo, AMD 4200x2, 2gigs OCZ Gold DDR500, 74gig WD Raptor, 300gig WD Caviar se16, ATI AIW800xl, Creative Xfi. Right now I have my stereo hooked up to the analog outputs of the XFi which I have modded with AD8260 opamps and Elna Silmic output caps. I rip my music to my hard drive as .wav files using using EAC and playback with win media player.

OK so I am planning on building a diy dac, and im not sure how to hook up and setup everything for best sound quality. How do I go about getting a bit perfect digital signal out to the dac without any extra stuff like the windows mixer, volume control...etc getting in the way??? This part really confuses me. Also do I use the digital output on my motherboard or my XFI or do I want to use the usb output?? Ive read all the stuff online and I still havent really found a clear answer. Please help me
