RE: Latest OEM STX Driver Page

I have been using James River MC15 on Win7 Ultimate 64-bit via WASAPI - Event Style.

Win7 has changed some things from XP where some applications need to be "Run as Administrator" to give it permissions to take control of various resources without having to ask the user for permissions every time it needs to make a change. I am not certain about the specifics that the ASUS release notes are referring to other than the general preceding observations. I have set the "Properties" option on MC15 Icon to "Run As Administrator" so that I do not have to specify each time I run it.

I have found the "WASAPI - Event Style" to work the best for me so far with the W4S DAC2, Win7/64-bit, ASUS Xonar Essence STX configuration. I have not yet been able to make a stark decision between the USB2-> DAC2 or the Xonar SPDIF-> DAC2 configuration yet. I moved away from using the HDMI audio into the Anthem Statement D2V's DAC because of HDMI audio handshaking issues with the Anthem Statement D2V.

I am still tweaking my PC by disabling services and shutting down the non-essentials in the OS, eliminated the cooling fan, fanless power supply, eliminating the swap-disk, monitoring temps, memory usage, etc. A 2.5" SSD maybe next to get rid of the 2.5" spinner.

HTH,
Tim

P.S.
Here is a review of the card that may provide helpful information about various configurations.
