Listen closely: lossless compression is as good as uncompressed. You're asking people in this forum who know the facts. I commonly play back flac files that are encoded with HDCD. My HDCD equipped DAC plays them back and decodes the HDCD info carried on the 16th bit (LSB) This is bona fide proof that none of the bits are altered when they reach the DAC. This is fact, believe it. Lossless compressed also has the advantage of carrying id tags which .wav cannot do. Since you use Itunes, sounds like apple lossless is the way for you to go. Plus, with the free dbpoweramp you can always convert files to any other format with a simple right click. FWIW I cannot get the current Itunes to play back in a bit perfect manner as described above. Don't know how it is in the Mac world. I use Foobar BTW.
