I like your attitude,I also don't buy the lossless claims. Maybe those who have more savvy at burning than I do have been able to make lossless burns that are indistinguishable from wav files. Wav files sound less "digital" to me irregardless of how slight the difference is. I'm no longer interested in lossless (My choice, don't bother trying to flame me, I won't respond) Getting back to your question; .wav files are 1411kbps Aiff is a lossless compression that normally averages about 3/4s the kbps of .wav files. .Wav is the native resolution of your CDs. If you are really serious about preserving the most resolution of your collection the extraction method makes a difference. Download EAC (if you haven't done so already). Do an archive search on Exact Audio Copy if you still aren't sure about it. I like my EAC copies slightly more than the originals. Good luck!
