RE: Been playing with an Emu 0404 USB Versus a Lynx 2B

Alan:

WOW! Thanks for that really neat-o showdown. Who would have thought that the Emu would give the Lynx such a run for it's money stat-wise.

Kind of makes one wonder about the 1820M and it's super-quality dacs...

In any case, lots of people on the net have this attitude that since Creative bought Emu that somehow that meant all Emu products were no good. I have a Creative X-fi Xtreme music, and for $125 it sounds pretty darned good and it does ASIO and bitperfect. Sure, it has all of those Creative bling-bling audio affects, but they FINALLY woke up and allow users to toggle all of these off/on (off in my case).

Anyways, it's good you added your sonic impressions as well. Many reviews of cards end up with the reviewer (usually a 19 year old gamer with a right-mark analyser) rating the sonics of the cards suspiciously similarily to how well each card ranks when comparing raw specs. It's as if these guys are "erring on the side of caution" and just picking the best spec'd (or most expensive) card. It also makes one wonder how much psycho-acoustics and sighted audition bias comes into play.

Cheers,
Presto
