Hate to get involved in a pointless discussion, but it is Friday...
Two comments. First, crosstalk still involves music -- the originally intended musical signal is involved, so it isn't an added distortion to my way of thinking.
Second, other than possibly a pure electronically-generated piece or the infamous recording practice where tracks are recorded at different points in time and then artificially mixed to position them in the stereo field, what musical performance exists that needs 100.0000% of a signal coming solely from pure left or right? That certainly does not exist in any live performance due to room reflections.
And it certainly isn't necessary to create the illusion of a far left or right placed stereo image. Our ears/brain combo is more than satisfied by the stereo field painted with a phono cartridge with 25 dB separation.
Seems like another endless chase of numbers that are already multitudes beyond what is needed for satisfying music reproduction. But, our hobby =is= famous for this.
