I only use AES and I can't compare optical to optical, not interested.
What the Sonos is capable of and what the Aries is capable of, not a fair comparison in sound quality, as the Aries beats it. However, for streaming services Sonos is the best. I got soundcloud, bandcamp, Deezer , tidal, google music etc.. All on the Sonos.
I checked out the steaming service I can spell right now, starts with Q, you just asked about it but it is not available in the US.
I checked out Roon, that seems cool if you are really hardcore with rips, I am not but it is nice to know there is an option with the metadata and associated information about the bands, however knowing my tastes limited copies of 100 CDs from labels that have died and forgotten it wouldn't be good for me either.
It is nice to see Roon is available for Linux though.
I have to see what these open home controllers can do, with Bubble DS Next on android I can do a lot with the Aries.
