RE: " that showed us how bad a multi-function computer really is?"

OK, perhaps better to say it showed us how bad the USB interface is, for more than a few reasons.

When we listened to the PS Audio DAC at a recent SFAS meeting we tried all of the ways of hooking a computer to the DAC, both Mac Mini and PC with 'audiophile' sound card, the USB input to the DAC was considered by most to be last place, even TOSLINK was better, a USB > I2S box was better yet and the 'Bridge' hooked directly to the computers via Ethernet sounded best to all.

USB is WAY too dependent on too many variables. Source and DAC which may or may not include the conversion of USB to I2S somewhere in the DCA or in SOME box along the way.

And yes, the source computer can certainly be the problem.

I'd like to go Ethernet cable right from my computer to my DAC light the PS Audio 'Bridge', albeit merely a UPnP solution at the moment, but no with my current DAC. :-(

First they came for the dumb-asses
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a dumb-ass
