RE: Playing music files directly from a NAS.

""Also - forget that NAS-Player approach! It's waste of time. That's been
discussed more than once over here.""

Because personally owned music is going away: it doesn't mean that it's gone, and it certainly doesn't mean that it's lower quality.

(The NAA-computer-NAS, or the NAA-NAS is the way that everyone is going, and the way everyone HAS to go, as even more than locally stored music, the computer is becoming a device that is not capable of attaching to a DAC).

Multi-faceted music fans are going to SLOWLY get rid of their personal collections, (files or discs), slower than even the best streaming services can fill up their catalogs. Of the 3000 album files in our DB, there are far fewer than 1/16th on any streaming service...

The sheer number of CDs that were manufactured is so vast, no streaming service can adequately represent even a fraction. Of course, listening has shifted, and the industry wants people only to listen to current, and homogeneous POP.

And, adding in a NAS drive to a system that is set up for streaming, (especially from a streaming-type player like a Squeezebox), is so easy.

""The PC as audio engine is dead! That was my emerging opinion several years back.""

True: but all this time, arguing with others who expressed it long before you, today.

"Asylums with doors open wide,
Where people had paid to see inside,
For entertainment they watch his body twist
Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'"
