Many software programs load files into a RAM cache in the player. Perhaps there might be a viable debate here that one is not actually streaming, but copying, storing, & loading. Yet others report better sound quality playback by using a "better" ethernet cable and/or fiber.
Some inmates have also said that they achieve better performance by using an internal HD instead of a NAS.
As people seem to be espousing the convenience of multi-room, whole-house, listening, - NAS playback becomes more and more important.
