Good counsel Kal. Noise is potentially a particular problem in my typically small British room.However I have found that although new HDDs can make a "shushing" noise when initially installed this largely tends to fade away after some hours of use. It may not reach absolute silence but is only audible from a few centimetres away. It is certainly inaudibe from my listening position even with quiet recordings such as a lute recital.
Furthermore I listen from (SSD) memory play so the drive is not spinning all of the time.
