RE: USB Ports sound different...

What, don't you trust your own ears enough to do a DBT?

Anyway, there's no suggestion that any data errors are present. No, the current theories are concerned with noise getting into the DAC from the PC on one or more of the lines. (I'm not convinced this is the whole story)

But at the kind of transmission speed that USB (2) uses, transmission line effects come into play, and different ports could easily have different actual characterisitic impedances, which could in turn lead to different noise artifacts, etc.

For instance, on this pc there are 4 x usb 3.0 ports, in 2x2 formation. Two of the sockets are soldered directly to the main PCB, whereas the other two have longer leads.

Please don't reiterate how ludicrous this sounds to you. What is happening here is that people are looking for things that might explain observed effects - seems I'm not the only one who has noticed differences between ports.
