if I didn't point out some potential problems with incorrectly playing with li-ion cells and chargers.
Even if we can get away with it 90 out of 100 times, the potential consequences can be devastating.
Anyhow, I use some Efest 3500mAh IMR (manganese) chemistry 26650s in a triple LED light that pulls about 6A. My first one went up in smoke, but thankfully didn't damage the battery, just fried the driver board and melted some smd components.
We're up to 5400mAh for the better ones, at smaller current/loads.
For 20 seconds, I was scared until I got it out onto the patio.
This is a great time for li-ion cells and chargers and being safe with them is easier than ever.
Here's my golden rule when playing with them:
'Never cheap out on li-ion cells, or chargers and buy known quality stuff. If you have to save a few bucks, buy cheap beer and toilet paper.'
Oh...and never buy/use anything marked XXX-Fire. It's junk and outright dangerous.
