Yours is the first report I've heard like this. Everybody else I've spoken with has heard a big improvement with the wired connection. Obviously there are many, many variables involved, so there will be no one single "right" answer. However based on the feedback I've received, I would strongly recommend trying a wired connection if at all possible. If you don't hear any difference and you already have Wi-Fi set up (and don't care about the health risks), then no reason to bother with wires.
