RE: Help with recording and replaying bell that is interfering with sleep and daily activities

I heard the bell ringing, each time very briefly and possibly for a fraction of a second, this night/morning around 1AM, and again at 2AM and then again at 7:15AM. I wonder if the bell might be hiding from the recorder because it may create some kind of high frequency volume spike against a quiet background. I have heard of "clipping" volume spikes but don't really know much and in particular if it applies to recording. The MP3 sampling rate of 48K seems high enough catch a bell but I would guess that TASKAM had a reason included 96K sampling for .wav. Would anyone venture a clue as to whether higher sampling and .wav format could be expected to make any difference?

I am still quite interested in the problem ... thanks to all who have taken time to look at this thread.
